Right-handers Mike Wright and Tyler Wilson are expected to compete all spring for either a long-relief role at the major league level or the chance to be the first starting pitcher to come up on the Triple-A Norfolk shuttle.
The Orioles' exhibition opener against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday afternoon was a strong start for both.
“Mike was good,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “I thought both of those guys early on threw the ball well. First time out. Good look, good look.”
Wright started the game and pitched two scoreless innings, retiring six of the seven batters he faced.
