It was a record-setting day for Brandon Chase in the Howard County Invitational track and field meet Saturday at Reservoir High School.
The Edgewood senior broke two meet records in winning the 400- and 200-meter dashes. He also set the Harford County record in the 400 with a fully automatic time of 48.78 seconds.
The county record of 48.7 was set in 1983 by Charles Johnson of Joppatowne and tied in 1996 by Dondre Gilliam of Aberdeen. Both performances were hand-timed. Chase's automatic time is superior based upon the standard correction of 0.14 second for races of 400 or longer. Chase ran 21.86 in winning the 200 Saturday.
