Ohio State sophomore Kyle Snyder, a Woodbine native who went to high school at Good Counsel in Olney, defeated two-time defending national champion Nick Gwiazdowski of North Carolina State with a takedown in overtime to win the 285-pound NCAA national championship Saturday night in New York.

Snyder beat No. 3 seed Ty Walz of Virginia Tech, 10-6, in a semifinal Friday to advance to the final against top-seeded Gwiazdowski.
