Hat tricks from Emily Gillingham and freshman Carly Tellekamp lifted the No. 20 Towson women's lacrosse team to a 9-4 victory over No. 19 Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
The Tigers (8-2) won their second straight game and earned their first victory over the host Blue Jays (8-5) since 2010.
Towson and Johns Hopkins traded goals early and found themselves tied at 1 with 25:50 to play in the first half.
Dene' DiMartino's goal for the Blue Jays at 25:50 was the last one the home team scored until 16:07 of the second half. The Tigers defense clamped down and held Johns Hopkins without a goal for 39:43; the Blue Jays managed just eight shots during that stretch.
