Host UMBC (19-12) won its first postseason NCAA Division I tournament game, 88-83, over Fairfield (16-15) in the opening round of the College Insider Tournament on Wednesday night. Jairus Lyles had 20 points and moved into third place on the Retrievers' single-season list of top scorers with 572 points. Will Darley (Dulaney) had 17 points for UMBC. The victory tied the 1988-89 team for the third most wins in 30 seasons of Division I competition. The Retrievers will find out their second-round opponent after the first round is completed tonight.
