Jerry Krause liked to tell a story. His wife, Thelma, heard them all, some of them multiple times.

The steadying, patient force behind Krause as he guided the Bulls for 18 seasons and to six championships, Thelma heard about the scouts who influenced him and the mentors he ultimately tried to repay by passing along what he knew and learned.

And the one story Krause talked about often during his later years reached a fitting conclusion Saturday, when the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame officially opened its doors to the man who always considered himself a scout at heart.
