In 1989-90, the Huskies galvanized the state of Connecticut with what became known as the "Dream Season." The Huskies finished 31-6, defeating Clemson in the Sweet 16 at the buzzer but losing in the next round to Duke at the buzzer. Calhoun didn't reach a Final Four until 1999, when UConn went on to win its first national championship. The second title came in 2004. Calhoun has sent more than 20 players to the NBA. In 2006, UConn had more players in the NBA (14) than any other school. Calhoun and his wife, Pat, have two sons and six grandchildren. The family has used their wealth and celebrity to help others. The Calhouns started the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center at the UConn Health Center. Calhoun is also active in many other charitable causes.
