Howard County girls soccer aims to continue statewide prominence

The statewide perception of Howard County girls soccer is that of excellence.

There have been 29 county teams crowned as state champions since the inception of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association state tournament in 1989 — more than one per season — with half the county schools represented among the best. Six teams in Maryland have won six or more state titles and three of them — Centennial, Glenelg and River Hill — call Howard County home. Hammond and Oakland Mills have both won multiple crowns.
