The grit, determination and brilliance of Jimmy Butler couldn't be denied Thursday night at Wells Fargo Center.

Despite resting a sprained right ankle at the morning shootaround, Butler put on a stupendous show in the Bulls' 115-111 overtime victory over the 76ers, scoring a career-high 53 points on a night Pau Gasol and Derrick Rose didn't play. That included 21-for-25 from the free-throw line, two shy of tying Michael Jordan's regular-season franchise record for attempts.
