The Aberdeen IronBirds opened their final homestand of the season Sunday with a win that keeps playoff hopes alive.
The ‘Birds (40-32) edged the Staten Island Yankees, 2-1, in New York-Penn League play at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. The win pulled Aberdeen to within 1.5 games of Hudson Valley in the Wild Card race.
Hudson Valley was rained out Sunday and is scheduled to play a double-header today (Monday). Aberdeen and Staten Island will also be back in action today for an afternoon game. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
Aberdeen trails Staten Island by 3 games in the McNamara Division standings and are still mathematically alive.
