The Aberdeen IronBirds got another strong pitching effort Monday night and unlike Sunday, they did not let it go to waste.
The IronBirds (17-24) blanked the host Staten Island Yankees, 3-0, in McNamara Division play of the New York-Penn League.
Matt Hammonds (2-2) tossed seven shutout innings for the win, allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out two. Josh Keaton came on to finish for his first save. Keaton gave up a hit, but struck but four over two innings.
The ‘Birds and Yankees are scheduled to play again tonight at 7 p.m. and wind up the series at noon on Wednesday.
Offensively, Aberdeen had just four hits, but they made the most of them. The first run...
