Nationals' Scherzer named NL Player of the Week

For throwing his second no-hitter, and entering the history books in doing so, Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday. He struck out a Nationals-record 17 on Saturday, walked none and allowed only one baserunner — on an error by third baseman Yunel Escobar. Scherzer is the first pitcher since Nolan Ryan to throw two regular-season no-hitters in the same season. (Roy Halladay threw two in 2010 but the second was in the playoffs.)
