Konerko, the Sox first baseman, caught the final out of the Series sweep against Houston and saved the ball until he could present it to Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf at a victory parade attended by an estimated 1 million fans. Konerko and World Series MVP Jermaine Dye also presented a White Sox jersey to President Bush at a White House reception. During the 2005 playoffs, Konerko was named the MVP of the American League Championship Series against the Angels, hitting .268 with two homers and seven RBIs. In the second game of the World Series, Konerko hit a dramatic grand slam to put the White Sox ahead 6-4 in a game they'd go on to win 7-6 on Scott Podsednik's walkoff home run. Following the World Series, Konerko became a free agent and was ardently pursued by the Angels until Reinsdorf signed him to a five-year contract worth $60 million. Konerko was drafted by the Dodgers as a catcher out of Scottsdale, Ariz. The White Sox acquired him from the Cincinnati Reds in 1999 for outfielder Mike Cameron. He had been a third baseman but was moved to first base and quickly became a fixture at U. S. Cellular Field, helping the White Sox make the playoffs in 2000.

Hot Pedroia Makes Final Out In Red Sox's Loss
Courant Staff WriterDustin Pedroia made news Sunday. He made an out. In fact, he made three outs, including the last one. And, also newsworthy, White Sox manager Ozzie...Tags: Gavin Floyd, Alexei Ramirez, Carlos Quentin, Mickey Mantle, Coco Crisp

Thome's milestone homer leads White Sox to win
