A four-time All-Star, Tejada played in 1,152 consecutive games, the fifth-longest streak in Major League history, before a broken wrist knocked him out of the Baltimore lineup on June 22, 2007.
Tejada has been linked to steroid use during his career, and he was named in the Mitchell Report in December 2007 just days after he was traded to Houston. Tejada has denied using performance-enhancing drugs, but Congress has asked the Justice Department to investigate whether Tejada lied to a House committee in 2005 when he was interviewed in connection with the Rafael Palmeiro steroids case.
Tejada was born in Bani, Dominican Republic on May 25, 1976. He was signed by Hall of Fame pitcher and Oakland Athletics scout Juan Marichal in 1993, when he was just 17. Tejada made his Major League debut in 1997 with the A's.
