The Orioles used one of their empty roster spots to claim right-handed reliever Scott McGough off waivers from the Miami Marlins, leaving just one open spot on the 40-man roster.
McGough, who began this season in Triple-A in the Marlins organization, was designated for assignment on Thursday. He will join the Triple-A Norfolk roster, the team announced.
“McGough is a good competitor, and if needed, should be able to support our major league bullpen this year,” Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said.
