  9. Revolution Offense Wakes Up to Even Series 1-1

    The York Revolution offense came to life while the pitching maintained its dominant form, and it all worked together in a 9-0 victory over the Long Island Ducks in Game 2 of the Atlantic League Championship Series in front of 4,605 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY on Thursday evening. With the series now even at 1-1, the Revs return home to close out the season with Games 3, 4, and 5 (if necessary), needing two victories to win a second consecutive championship. Game 3 is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Ramon Castro homered, tripled, and drove in five to lead the offensive attack. Chris Nowak also went yard as part of a four-hit night, and Val Majewski connected on a two-run homer, while Lorenzo Barcelo went six innings combining on the Revs' second postseason shutout in club history. Majewski opened the scoring in the top of the second with his two-run shot to right-center, off the glove of the leaping Lew Ford who was attempting to keep it in the park. It provided the Revs with their first multi-run lead in the first nine innings of a game since Game 2 of the Freedom Division Championship Series, and their first multi-run lead prior to the seventh inning of the entire postseason. Castro slammed a three-run blast to left-center an inning later, beyond the reach of Ford who climbed the wall attempting to bring it back. Three pitches later, Nowak crushed a solo shot to left increasing the lead to 6-0 and chasing starter Josh Banks, who allowed six runs and failed to get out of the third inning for the second time in as many postseason starts. The back-to-back homeruns were the second in the Revs' postseason history; Ian Bladergroen and Erold Andrus teamed up to accomplish the feat in a victory over Bridgeport in Game 2 of last year's Championship Series. Castro lined a two-run triple to left-center past the diving Ford in the top of the sixth, and scored on an error by third baseman Matt Padgett to cap the scoring. Castro's five-RBI game came after being held to just one RBI in the first six postseason games. Nowak's 4-for-5 game occurred after being held to just three hits previously in six playoff games. Majewski's two RBI were his first two of the playoffs. All three players hit their first homeruns of the postseason for the Revs who, as a team, had only three round-trippers in their previous six playoff contests. Barcelo struck out five and left the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings, earning the win and improving to 6-1 in a York uniform including the regular season. Sean Stidfole (1.1 innings), Kris Regas (0.2 innings), and Michael Nix (1.0 inning) combined to finish the shutout. Notes: Castro's five RBI are the second most in a playoff game in team history behind only Bladergroen's six RBI performance in Game 2 of the Championship Series vs. Bridgeport last season. The only other shutout win in Revs postseason play came in Game 5 of last year's Freedom Division Championship Series when York edged Somerset 1-0. It tied the largest margin of victory for the Revs in a postseason game, along with a 10-1 win over Somerset in their playoff opener last season. It marked the first time this postseason that the Revs haven't trailed in a game, and snapped a streak of five consecutive games in which the opponent had scored first. Nowak has now hit eight homeruns against Long Island in 16 games this season, with seven of those coming in ten games at Bethpage Ballpark. York's Jino Gonzalez (0-1, 5.06) will face Long Island's Bob Zimmermann (1-0, 0.00) in Game 3 of the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium.     REVS OUTSLUG DUCKS FOR 2-1 SERIES LEAD, STANDING ONE WIN AWAY FROM ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP After watching a big lead slip away, the York Revolution rebounded to retake control late in the game, and notched a 9-6 victory over the Long Island Ducks in Game 3 of the Atlantic League Championship Series in front of a Revs' postseason record 4,934 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Friday night. The Revs now hold a 2-1 series lead, needing just one victory in the next two games to win their second consecutive league championship. Game 4 is set for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. in York. The Revs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first four innings. Salvador Paniagua smoked a two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the second for the game's first runs. It marked the second time in the last two home playoff games that Paniagua drove in multiple runs. Ramon Castro led off the bottom of the third with a single to left and scored on a triple to right-center by Chris Nowak. Val Majewski then lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, as the lead grew to 4-0. Bryant Nelson clubbed a line drive homerun off the right field foul pole in the bottom of the fifth, providing York with its fifth run. Revs starter Jino Gonzalez cruised along early, allowing no runs in the first three innings and carrying a one-hit shutout into the fifth. But after jumping ahead of Matt Padgett 1-2, Padgett worked the count full and singled up the middle to start the fifth inning. Matt Esquivel followed with a two-run homer to left on another 3-2 pitch, getting the Ducks on the board. After a walk and another single, Gonzalez was lifted for reliever Dumas Garcia, who recorded an out on a sacrifice bunt before striking out Ray Navarrete for the second out. But Javier Colina reached on an infield single along the third base line plating another run to make it 5-3, and John Rodriguez drove a game-tying two-run double into the left field corner tying the score. The five-run inning snapped an 18-inning scoreless streak for Long Island's offense, having scored only one run previously in 21 innings in the series. The Revs regrouped, however, and took charge late in the game. Jose Herrera led off the home sixth with a single to right field, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Liubiemithz Rodriguez, and scored on a two-out single up the middle by Scott Grimes, giving York the lead for good. Castro slammed a homerun to left field leading off the bottom of the seventh to add to the lead, and with two outs Vince Harrison doubled to right-center and scored on a single to left by Herrera, his third hit of the night. Herrera singled in each of his final three at-bats, after beginning the postseason 0-for-18. Nelson provided one final offensive highlight in the bottom of the eighth with a homerun off the tents in right field, becoming the first batter in Revs history to go deep twice in a playoff game. Nelson now leads all playoff batters with three round-trippers this postseason. Matt DeSalvo (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Revs, retiring all nine batters in a perfect three-inning stint that included four strikeouts. R.J. Rodriguez closed it out in the ninth, allowing only an unearned run before retiring Colina on a groundball fielder's choice to shortstop with the tying run at the plate. Reliever Jason Monti (0-1) suffered the loss for Long Island, allowing the sixth inning run on Grimes' single. York has now scored nine runs in back-to-back games, totaling 25 hits the last two contests. They had been held to just seven runs in their previous four games, and 14 runs in their previous six postseason games. The Revs have also connected on three homeruns in back-to-back games, after managing just three homeruns in their first six playoff games. Every York starter either scored a run or drove in a run, while eight of the nine starters had hits. York's Corey Thurman (0-0, 2.19) will face the Ducks' Chris McCoy (0-0, 6.75) in Game 4 on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., with the Revs attempting to become just the second team in Atlantic League history to win back-to-back league championships.   11. York Revolution Postpone Game 4 of Championship Series

    GAME 4 POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN On Saturday evening, Game 4 of the Atlantic League Championship was postponed due to rain and unplayable field conditions. Game 4 will now be played on Sunday at 1 p.m., and NOT 5 p.m. which was the originally scheduled game time for Game 5 on Sunday. The start time was moved up to provide greater flexibility due to additional rain in the forecast tomorrow. Tickets from Saturday night are good for tomorrow's game as well. Game 5 tickets from Sunday are now good for Game 5, if necessary, which would now be Monday at 6:30 p.m. Fans who would like to exchange their tickets to Sunday's original game for now what is Game 4 on Sunday at 1 p.m. may do so, by coming to Sovereign Bank Stadium and exchanging their tickets at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office prior to the game. The Revolution holds a 2-1 series lead over the Long Island Ducks in the best of five.
