After being at the center of unsettling speculation during the winter, Jose Fernandez can't wait to get back into a more comfortable place as the centerpiece of the Miami Marlins' pitching staff.
There is every reason to believe the de facto ace will be on the mound when the Marlins open the season April 5 against the Tigers at Marlins Park, where he is 17-0 in his career. New manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday he's not ready to make that call, even though Detroit manager Brad Ausmus has already announced Justin Verlander as his starter.
But with Fernandez, the key questions are not as much about getting started as regarding where he will end up.
