The good news for catcher Ryan Lavarnway is that he will not be designated for assignment for the rest of the offseason. The bad news is that he is no longer on a big league 40-man roster. The Orioles announced Friday that Lavarnway cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. He was designated for assignment Jan. 9 when the Orioles announced the signing of Delmon Young. Lavarnway, 27, began December with the Boston Red Sox, the club that drafted him in the sixth round out of Yale in 2008.
