    About eight percent of children born in the United States have at least one undocumented immigrant for a parent, according to a study published Thursday by the Pew Hispanic Center. Researchers also found undocumented immigrants are an average of ten years younger than legal U.S. citizens. The study has sparked a debate about the 14th Amendment and its provision granting citizenship to anyone born within the country. U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is suggesting overturning the 14th Amendment in an effort to deter non-citizens from having so-called "anchor babies" in the United States.

  17. SLC gas leak plugged; evacuees allowed to return home

    A natural gas leak forced a small evacuation in a Salt Lake City neighborhood Monday morning, It happened around 11:40 a.m. in the vicinity of 1057 E Yale Ave.  According to Scott Freitag of the Salt Lake City fire department, two people living in the area were evacuated for a brief period as the leak was rectified. A Questar Gas crew worked swiftly to repair the broken gas line and those evacuated were allowed back into their homes.

  21. Homeless living facility in SLC evacuated after bomb threat; no explosives found

    A Salt Lake City housing facility for homeless veterans was evacuated Monday morning due to a bomb threat, but no explosives were found. Salt Lake City police received calls around 9:30 a.m. from witnesses stating the one of the facility's occupants was making suicidal threats. The suspect allegedly said he wanted to blow up his room. The suspect's door was slightly ajar when officers arrived, allowing them to see inside. The officers observed some unnamed objects that led to a decision to evacuate the facility. The entire complex, which houses about 80 people, was evacuated and a bomb squad was called in.

    Two lanes on eastbound S.R. 201 were closed Monday afternoon as crews worked to extinguish brush fires at the Interstate 215 interchange. Crews were working to extinguish flames along Interstate 215 at 2200 South and 3500 South. Additional fires were reported at 2000 South and 2800 South. Firefighters are calling the fires suspicious.
