Vince Velasquez fans 16 in complete-game shutout as Philles take three of four from Padres

PHILADELPHIA — Vince Velasquez became the latest Phillies starter to dominate the San Diego Padres lineup Thursday afternoon.

After Charlie Morton and Jerad Eickhoff combined for 13 2/3 scoreless innings the previous two games, Velasquez chipped in with nine frames of his own without any runs.

Velasquez, the centerpiece of the Ken Giles trade in December, threw the gem to follow up the six shutout innings he threw against the Mets in his April 9 Phillies debut.

The right-handed power pitcher relied on what he's known for — his fastball — to throw the complete-game, 16 strikeout, zero walk shutout, leading the Phillies to a 3-0 victory, their fifth win...
