American racecar driver Clint Bowyer was born on May 30, 1979, in Emporia, Kan. He began racing motocross at the age of 5 and had more than 200 wins and championships over the next eight years. In 1996, he began racing street stocks at Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan. He went on to win the Modified championships in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, he began racing in the NASCAR Weekly Racing series, placing second in the national point standings. He was named the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Midwest Champion in 2002. In 1996, he began racing street stocks at Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan. He went on to win the Modified championships in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, he began racing in the NASCAR Weekly Racing series, placing second in the national point standings. He was named the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Midwest Champion in 2002. In 2003, he caught the eye of legendary car owner Richard Childress after finishing second in his debut at Nashville Superspeedway. In 2004, he began racing in the NASCAR Busch Series for Childress half-time. He rode full-time in 2005, finishing the season in second place. He won his first Craftsman Truck Series race in 2006. After starting the 2007 season in Daytona by crossing the finish line upside down and on fire, Bowyer later won his first NEXTEL Cup race and two Busch Series races. In 2008, he won the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Fla. He started his own Dirt Late Model team, Clint Bowyer Racing in 2008. That year, he also hosted teh first Clint Bowyer Charity Golf Even in his hometown of Emporia, Kan., raising $160,000 for the Emporia Community foundation. In 2010, he placed second in the Sylvania 300, but was penalized afterward due to failing a secondary inspection. He and Childress were penalized $150,000 and 150 championship points. Childress appealed the decision, which reduced the fine to $100,000, but the point deduction was upheld. Despite that, he still finished 10th in the final Chase standings.
