  1. Like Ravens, Steelers dealing with injuries and questions on defense

Is this the year their aging defense finally kicks the bucket? How will they survive without the face of the defense in the huddle every Sunday? Can they get their once-feared pass rush back?

The Edgewood boys' cross-country team will travel to Hereford Saturday to compete in the MPSSAA state high school cross-country meet. It's a trip the team hasn't made in many years. The Rams earned their ticket to the hilly Hereford course on a flat...

Lenier Tucker set a course record and led the Edgewood boys team to a cross-country victory over three other UCBAC teams at North East Tuesday. Tucker, a senior, was timed in 16:54, bettering by one second the record set by Rising Sun's Austin McGinley....

  13. Assessing the AFC North in free agency

Free agency began four weeks ago today (though after waiting days and days and days for the Ravens to make moves, it feels like it started four months ago). The Ravens lost three starters during the first week of free agency and a few reserves. But they locked down a pair of promising, young defenders in cornerback Lardarius Webb and linebacker Jameel McClain. That’s how the Ravens make a splash.

  15. 2012 NFL free agency primer: the defensive linemen

Houston Texans defensive end turned outside linebacker Mario Williams will be the marquee free agent this offseason not named Peyton Manning. (Interesting side note: The Texans drafted Williams No. 1 overall in part due to Manning’s presence in the AFC South and now they will both hit the market at the same time.) He is a natural at defensive end in a 4-3 defense, but did well enough in 2011 to garner interest from 3-4 teams.

  17. Ravens aren't buying age issue with Steelers defense

There’s been a startling amount of talk about the aging of the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, a unit that surrendered the fewest points last season and boasts the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in strong safety Troy Polamalu.

  19. The nine teams that can win the Super Bowl in 2011

I'm not very good at making preseason predictions. Two years ago, I picked the Giants to beat the Chargers in the Super Bowl. Last season, I wrote a column saying the Ravens would go all the way, and they might have had they not fallen apart against the Steelers. This year, I'm feeling good about the Patriots and the Packers -- and yes, I felt that way before Thursday night -- but considering my track record, neither will win it all in 2011.
