  1. Carson coverage shows media at its worst

We have read and heard on a continuous basis from the national media outlets the distortion of the words used by Dr. Benjamin Carson in discussing his stance against gay marriage ("Dr. Ben Carson steps down as speaker at Hopkins graduation," April 11). If one heard or read his remarks, he did not compare marriage between two people of the same sex to those who engage in bestiality as the media would have us believe.

When Christopher Cheswick learned that the drunken driver who killed his son Matthew might be paroled after little more than a year in prison, he turned to Facebook to post his outrage and heartbreak.

  5. Ben Carson's views on gay marriage are an insult to his colleagues and patients

Although a brilliant surgeon, Dr. Ben Carson must have realized he would also be judged by his views on gay marriage ("Hopkins chides Carson for gay-marriage remarks," April 6).

  9. Hopkins shows its intolerance by the reaction to Ben Carson's remarks

A year prior to our daughter's graduation from Tulane University, Ellen DeGeneres spoke during the ceremony, followed by Anderson Cooper, who delivered the commencement address. It was a pleasure to be a member of the audience of this widely respected journalist.

  11. We can't change Ben Carson's views

Alexander Hooke accuses the liberal media of being self-righteous and intolerant concerning their treatment of Dr. Ben Carson's comments on gay marriage ("Liberal Intolerance" April 9). As if one could logically argue the point to Dr. Carson that gay marriage does not equate with bestiality.

  13. Hopkins should be ashamed of the way it bullied Dr. Carson

In what possible way is Dr. Ben Carson's belief that marriage is between a man and a woman "in conflict with [Johns Hopkins University's] core values of diversity, inclusion and respect," as Hopkins Dean of Medicine Dr. Paul B. Rothman put it in a letter to colleagues ("Hopkins chides Carson for gay-marriage remarks," April 6).

  15. Carson defenders and gay-bashing

I have to laugh when I read the letters defending Dr. Ben Carson for his viciously homophobic and bigoted comments comparing gay marriage to child abuse and bestiality ("Dr. Carson steps down as speaker at Hopkins graduation," April 11). I have to wonder how many of these same people would be stepping forward to defend the man if he had unleashed a tirade against anyone but homosexuals.

The Supreme Court left in doubt Monday whether gun owners have a Second-Amendment right to carry a firearm in public, declining to hear a case about concealed-carry laws that is similar to a Maryland suit that still has life in federal courts.

  23. Will Obama's brain initiative unlock the mysteries of the Republican mind?

President Barack Obama wants to invest an initial $110 billion in a study of the human brain that could have benefits as great as those achieved by the Human Genome Project. Maybe the first study should be done on the one-track minds of tea party Republicans who will undoubtedly oppose funding for the study because their brains are fixated on the single idea that government can do nothing right.
