  1. Advocates say Baltimore's plan to end homelessness is in disarray

Halfway through Baltimore's long-term plan to end homelessness, advocates complain that the strategy is in disarray and worry that the number of men, women and children without permanent homes has grown — despite millions of dollars being pumped into local services.

  3. Invest wisely in early childhood

As we struggle through the fifth year of recession, facing budget cuts, austerity and now the sequester, it may be a good time to re-evaluate our national priorities. Last year, the Reach Out and Read program that distributes books to low-income children from 6 months to 5 years lost its federal grant and this year the Head Start program is being cut back. These cuts will be borne by our most vulnerable citizens.

  5. When schools are more than schools

To be strong, healthy and safe, Baltimore needs leaders who maintain their priorities in challenging circumstances. Last year, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake increased funding for coordinated Out-of-School-Time (OST) programming, which uses public schools as a hub to create "Community Schools" that offer a comprehensive range of services and opportunities to children, youth, families and communities.

  7. Who makes the cut for an invitation to the bridal shower?

One of my bridesmaids recently asked me for my bridal shower guest list. Who knew that would be so hard for me? I found myself researching etiquette and trends on who from the wedding invite list also gets an invite to the bridal shower.

  9. The case for getting an on-site venue coordinator

At our venue, we’re lucky to have a wedding coordinator who works with us to ensure everything comes together. She'll help us especially on the day of the wedding to make sure the details are handled so that we can enjoy the moment.
