NBC has signed on as the TV partner for Clear Channel's inaugural IHeartRadio Music Awards telecast, set for May 1 from the Shine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The three-hour live kudocast celebrating top hitmakers will be produced by Ryan Seacrest Prods. and Clear Channel Media. Seacrest has a long-standing business ties to Clear Channel, notably as an on-air pillar of the conglom's top-rated Los Angeles pop station KIIS-FM and as host of the syndicated weekly program "American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest."
Winners will be determined by Clear Channel's IHeartRadio airplay chart as well as fan voting.
NBC's deal for a music kudocast -- which has been CBS' turf through its long run with the Grammy Awards -- comes on the heels of CBS' pacting with the Hollywood Film Awards in an effort to get a jump on NBC's Golden Globes Awards franchise.
The CW has run highlights of Clear Channel's IHeart Radio concert fest in Las Vegas for the past two years as a lead-in to its fall season launch. That partnership will continue despite NBC's pact for the kudocast.
