Voltage Pictures is coming on board for international sales at Berlin for Irish drama "The Secret Scripture" with Jessica Chastain
and Vanessa Redgrave
attached to star.
Noel Pearson ("My Left Foot") is producing the adaptation of the Sebastian Barry novel. Plans are for shooting to start in late May in Ireland with Thaddeus O'Sullivan directing.
The novel, published in 2008, centers on a 100-year-old woman who has been in a soon-to-be-demolished mental hospital in Ireland for half her life and a psychiatrist tries to understand why she is there. The woman has been keeping an autobiography -- covering Ireland's upheavals during the 1920s and 1930s -- under the floorboard in her room.
The screenplay has been written by the late Irish writer Johnny Ferguson.
Chastain and Redgrave have been on board since last year to play younger and older versions of the woman, respectively. Chastain is currently filmming "A Most Violent Year" for director J.C. Chandor.
O'Sullivan's credits include 2009′s TV movie "Into the Storm," starring Brendan Gleeson
as Winston Churchill.
