HONG KONG - After two and a half days of product reels, private screenings and technology demonstrations, the CineAsia convention wrapped in Hong Kong with an awards ceremony that honored some of the most popular film executives in Asia.
Terry Lai and Rigo Jesu, heads of Hong Kong exhibitor and distributor, Intercontinental Group, received a lifetime achievement award for distribution and loud applause.
Wang Changtian (pictured left with 20th Century Fox executive VP Sunder Kimatrai), head of Beijing Enlight Pictures, was named film-maker and producer of the year. His recent track record includes producing last December's runaway hit "Lost In Thailand" and distribution credits for new age hits "So Young" and "American Dreams in China."
"This year our company achieved 20% of the box office for Chinese films. Next year we will release 15 films and are aiming for 30% market share," he said in a short and upbeat speech.
Hong Kong superstar Tony Leung Chiu-wai was also on hand to receive an award for 'acting performance of the year" in Wong Kar-wai's "The Grandmaster."
Organizers, who brought in their own projectors, sound system and precision screen, said the accompanying trade show was the biggest CineAsia has ever hosted. The event will return to Hong Kong next year: Dec. 9-11, 2014.
