Legendary Television and Digital has brokered a multi-year deal with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld's Red Hour Films to develop and produce exclusive content for both TV and digital platforms.
Pact is the first major deal for Bruce Rosenblum, the former head of Warner Bros. Television, who became Legendary's president of television and digital media this summer.
Debbie Liebling, president of Red Hour Television, will oversee the development of the company's series for Legendary. Her prior credits mainly include such comedies as "Bridesmaids,' "The Change-Up," "Borat" and Red Hour's "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story."
As a shingle, Red Hour Television was launched in 2012. While it's set up shows at HBO, FX, Fox, NBC, ABC and USA Network, only IFC's "Birthday Boys" and "The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail," at Comedy Central, have received greenlights.
Mike Rosenstein, Red Hour's director of digital, will run the company's digital content development for Legendary. The digital portion will kick in after Red Hour's current pact with Paramount expires.
The exec and Tom Lesinski, president of Legendary Digital Media, previously collaborated on the web series "Burning Love," a parody of "The Bachelor," and the upcoming "Zoolander" animated digital series.
Rosenblum said the "edginess and irreverence" of Red Hour's programming fit Legendary's brand and the company's efforts to produce multi-platform projects, especially for digital.
Stiller took time to make light of his new deal with Legendary in a press release, saying ""We are very excited to partner with Legendary, though I am a little concerned that Bruce called me 'Mr. Affleck' when discussing the deal on the phone. Hopefully, he won't realize he got the other Ben till after the papers are signed."
