Finding Mr. Right? Hard. Finding the winning formula to a hit romantic comedy? Harder.
As part of its China Canada Gateway for Film Script Competition, now in its second year, the Whistler Film Festival is hosting a Chinese Blockbuster Case Study, catapulting largely Vancouver-shot "Finding Mr. Right" into the limelight.
Turns out the winning formula for "Finding Mr. Right" meant combining Chinese elements with a decidedly North American approach.
The storytelling follows a Western formula and the soundtrack features North American pop hits.
Written and directed by Xue Xiaolu, it features a Chinese cast that includes Tang Wei and Wu Xiubo. Vancouver-based producers Shan Tam and Michael Parker co-produced alongside China's Edko Films.
Given the fruitful partnership, Edko Films will be one of the Chinese studios looking for its next big hit at this year's competition.
