The Daytime Emmys will add two new categories to its 2014 kudofest.
One will be a new category for entertainment news that will give a shot to programs previously ineligible to enter the Daytime Emmys, such "Entertainment Tonight" and "Extra." The category will honor shows with a focus on human interest, popular culture and celebrity gossip and interviews.
"I would like to thank the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, especially Bruce Rosenblum and the ATAS Board of Governors, for their part in this collaborate effort to establish the entertainment news category in the Daytime Emmy Awards," NATAS said Malachy Wienges said.
The other new category, "Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series," will for any daytime drama with fewer than 35 original episodes in a calendar year.
Shows with more than 35 episodes can remain in the outstanding drama series category, which means that Prospect Park's online revival of "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" can compete against "The Young & The Restless," "The Bold & The Beautiful," "General Hospital" and "Days of Our Lives." All of the actors and crafts people on these shows will also be eligible to compete in their appropriate program and craft related categories.
