Martin Sheen will be honored with the Dubai Intl. Film Festival lifetime achievement award at the fest's opening ceremony in December.

"Martin Sheen is a cinematic legend whose remarkable career has spanned five decades," said fest chairman Abdulhamid Juma. "In that time he has brought to life a huge variety of compelling, intelligent and wonderfully engaging characters on the big and small screen."

"This esteemed recognition inspires me to continue doing what I love most -- telling stories through the art of cinema," Sheen said of the award.

With a career spanning critically acclaimed television and movies from Francis Ford Coppola's feature "Apocalypse Now" in 1979 to "The Amazing Spider-Man" last year, Sheen joins previous Dubai lifetime achievement honorees such as Omar Sharif, Morgan Freeman, Sean Penn and Oliver Stone.

Festival goers will also be able to partake with a Q&A with Sheen. The festival run Dec. 6-14.
