Al Jazeera correspondent Wayne Hay, cameraman Adil Bradlow, producers Russ Finn and Baher Mohammed were taken into custody while working in Cairo. The Egyptian government already detained two other Al Jazeera employees earlier in the month; they have yet to be released.
Egyptian government officials have already declared that the Qatar-based company's affiliate, Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr, is operating illegally without licensed satellite transmitters, according to an Associated Press report. The country's MENA news agency reported that the Al Jazeera is responsible for "rumors and claims which are harmful to Egyptian national security and threaten the country's unity."
As of Thursday, Al Jazeera remained on the air despite having aired statements from Islamist figures critical of the government since Egypt descended into turmoil last month.
