"True Blood" star Stephen Moyer
has been tapped to play the role of the decorated World War I
hero opposite Carrie Underwood
in the Peacock's Dec. 5 broadcast of the event. Underwood was previously cast as Maria.
Moyer is no stranger to the musical space, having just starred in the Hollywood Bowl's production of "Chicago," where he played Billy Flynn. Moyer's history in the legit scene goes back to his time across the Pond at the National Theatre of Wales, the Royal Shakespeare Company
, the Oxford Stage Company and the Young Vic.
From Universal TV, "The Sound of Music" is executive produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford will serve as directors.
Moyer is represented by WME in the U.S. and United Agents in the U.K. His manager is Lena Roklin.
