FX Networks CEO John Landgraf announced today during his exec session that Billy Bob Thornton will star in the FX adaptation of the Coen brothers' feature film "Fargo."

Thesp will play Lorne Malvo, a role similar to the one played by Steve Buscemi in the 1996 silver screen version.

FX greenlit "Fargo" as a limited series in March, with the Coen brothers set to exec produce. The television show will remain "true" to the film, according to Landgraf, though the characters are not entirely the same. Noah Hawley is writing and also exec producing "Fargo."

"It remains true to the spirit of the original," Landgraf added about the adaptation.
