The park is an upgrade of Resorts World Genting, the hilltop theme park and hotels destination that Genting has operated for the past 35 years at a site an hour outside Kuala Lumpur.

"Brought to life by our partner Resorts World Genting, this theme park marks the launch of our global location based entertainment strategy," said Jeffrey Godsick, consumer products president of 20th Century Fox.
"This landmark development is our first response to the growing demand for theme parks with a cinematic nature," said Genting Malaysia's chairman Lim Kok Thay today at a press conference in the Malaysian capital.
Lim said that Genting Malaysia expects invest some $125 million (RM400 million) in the theme park project, and an overall $937 million (RM3 billion). Genting will close its current park from September until the revamped park re-opens in 2016.
The resort was built at altitude in the Genting Highlands in order to minimize Malaysia's heat and humidity. Last year it received some 20 million visitors.
