I can't say I agree with everything that comes out of the mouth of Florida's junior senator. Marco Rubio and I have our differences, whether it's on his "turn-tail" support of immigration reform or his silly notion that human activity isn't a major factor in climate change.

Five years ago this December, I took a "climate-change" tour of the Florida Keys. It wasn't the most idyllic of excursions, even if it was time well spent away from the office. Seeing the impact rain and high tide can have on the Keys was eye-opening.

A few years back, I came up with a new economic indicator to chew on – the cost of bacon. I admit I freaked when that popular part of the pig went north of $6 a pound. But that was back in 2011 when the country was still grappling with the effects of the Great Recession.
