At 11 p.m., Maria was about 310 miles east of the southeastern Bahamas, or about 640 miles southwest of Bermuda, lumbering north at 9 mph with sustained winds of 50 mph.

It is projected to pass west of Bermuda on Thursday, yet close enough that it could bring nasty weather to the island nation. A tropical storm watch has been posted for Bermuda.
Maria also might hit or brush Newfoundland, Canada, as an extra-tropical system on Friday.
It is not predicted to grow into a hurricane.
