Thing 3: Why the Miami Dolphins' backup long snapper matters more than you think

Thing 3: Did you see where the Raiders, in their season-opening 22-14 loss to the Chargers on Monday night, lost Pro Bowl long snapper Jon Condo and saw his replacement botch three long snaps to Pro Bowl punter Shane Lechler?

Backup linebacker Travis Goethel, an Arizona State product who hadn't long-snapped since high school, jumped in after Condo suffered a head injury in the first half.

You can bet the Raiders will be working out a long line of long snappers Tuesday so the same thing doesn’t happen Sunday against the Dolphins.

By the way, it is believed backup linebacker Austin Spitler has inherited the Dolphins' backup long snapper duties from the retired Jason Taylor.

But they'd rather see Pro Bowler John Denney do all the long snapping again this year, for obvious reasons.
