From an extensive list of appetizers, soups, noodle and rice entrees, we choose crispy calamari rings ($5.95) and vegetable tempura ($5.95) made up of green beans, mushrooms and sweet potatoes. The fried foods suffer from condensation on the trip home so are a tad soggy, but still flavorful.
However, the calamari portion is skimpy. But it tastes good in the sweet-sour sauce with peppery overtones. The vegetable tempura has its own garlicky soy mixture for dipping. Both are packed separately in small containers.
Chiang Mai Noodle Soup ($10.95) has the coconut-curry broth packed in one container so it can be poured over the tender chicken pieces with bok choy, carrot strips, onions and bean sprouts on a bed of thin egg noodles packed in another container. The broth tastes bland to us lacking both curry and coconut flavor.
The better choice is Mee Goreng ($10.95), an Indonesian specialty. Flat ramen (wheat) noodles are tossed with tender beef slices (shrimp is $2 extra), crisp edamame, snow peas, black mushrooms, broccoli, bean sprouts, red peppers and celery in a flavorful but light sauce. Szechuan pepper flakes spice up this dish, along with hints of garlic, soy and beef broth. Both dishes come in adequate portions for one.
Food is well packed in tinfoil pans with plastic lids in plastic bags. — Jan Norris
