Cypress Bay first-team All-County infielder Maddie Gott, from Weston, will be attending Columbia University in the fall of 2014, continuing a recent tradition of Broward County softball players heading to the Ivy League.

Gott's hitting (.383 batting average and 30 RBI) helped the Lightning finish as state runner-up in Class 8A this season.

Other softball players from Broward who recently have attended or will be attending Ivy League schools: Parkland's Katherine Lantz (Harvard), Weston's Erica Nori (Princeton), Cooper City's Karina Rios (Penn) and Davie's Jessica Arneson (Penn).

Gott plays travel softball with the West Pines Diamond Dusters, coached by Cooper City High School coach Phil Schmalz.
