For a time the 13.5-acre village was on the sales block for $15 million, even though homeowners acknowledged that individually their properties would not total more than $5 million. But they figured to make a killing because the buyer would have gotten his or her own town. Calls came in from interested parties including a Kuwaiti prince and a Latin American pop singer.
Though the "village-for-sale" received widespread attention, it did not bag an actual sale for Lazy Lake, which is tucked inside larger Wilton Manors just off Andrews Avenue and north of the Middle River.
The council meets four times a year to conduct what little business is required. Residents takes turns serving on the Village Council. The county provides its police services, Wilton Manors provides water and fire service and a private firm takes care of street repair.
