Haimovitch, an attorney at Kopelowitz Ostrow, a business law firm based in South Florida, played for the Gators from 2001-04 and then professionally in Israel in 2010-11 for Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Before accepting the job at South Broward, where he will replace Jermaine Hollis, he was an assistant coach for the men’s team at Broward College. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Buchholz High School in Gainesville.
Haimovitch attended Douglas his first three years of high school, and then transferred to Coral Springs, where he was a team captain as a senior and averaged 8.0 points and 5.0 assists per gfame. He won Broward County’s All-Star Game 3-Point Shooting Contest.
He earned a spot on the Gators’ roster in 2001-02 in his second tryout after initially trying to walk-on before the 2000-01 season. He saw his most action in 2002-03, appearing in 11 games.
Haimovitch takes over a program that was 28-35 in three seasons under Hollis, including 10-11 last season.
