United Airlines aircraft takes flight.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has fined United Airlines $130,000 for violating tarmac delay regulations, the federal agency said Monday.
Last May, United failed to tell customers on a delayed flight at Chicago O’Hare International Airport they could leave the plane as it sat at the gate with the door open, the DOT said.
United staff should have informed the passengers they could leave the plane 30 minutes after the scheduled departure time, and every 30 minutes afterward, according to DOT rules.
In South Florida, United operates flights to and from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Palm Beach International and Miami International airports.
