Gary Murphy did a brave deed: He rescued his dog from the mouth of an alligator on Thursday, reports TCPalm.com.
About 4 p.m. Thursday Murphy was working on his father-in law's boat in a marsh area of Palm City when he heard a yelp from his 11-year old West Highland White terrier.
So, the 72-year-old-retired construction worker jumped on the gator's back, hitting it on the back of head and forcing it to release the dog.
Both Murphy and the gator then landed in the water.
The dog was treated at an animal hospital and is expected to recover from its injuries.
