  1. Fresh foods need to be affordable, too

If The Sun wants to encourage better nutrition ("Maryland's evolving harvest," April 19), I would suggest creating a weekly coupon to help with fresh produce and meats. The Sun carries many grocery coupons but seldom for fresh produce or meats. I think...

    The Baltimore Sun

  7. Fresh idea for food stamps

In Baltimore City, 1 in 8 families with young children are "food insecure," and 20 percent of all residents live in poverty. More than half a million Marylanders get help affording food through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In fact, SNAP, or what we used to call food stamps, enrolled 45 million people nationwide this year, a leap from 25 million in 2008.

  9. Hitting the shops on Black Friday? Try one of Harford's many local businesses

You know those ladies at the grocery store with the giant stack of coupons who hold up the line? That's me. I'm also the annoying customer who goes to shops with "free sample" vouchers and wind up not buying anything because I'm only there for the free...

  11. Not sure what the Wegmans fuss is about

I guess I just don't see what all the fuss is about. It's only a grocery store, after all. Others, however, I'm sure will argue that Wegmans is so much more than "just a grocery store." And I must be mistaken, based on the number of people who were at...

  13. Clipping coupons is a chore, clicking on them an addiction

I was introduced to my first fascination with coupons on March 27, when I clicked on an advert on some website or another for DoubleTakeDeals. I probably should have known better, except words that were magic to my eyes popped up. David's Natural Market...

  15. Farmers' markets are growing faster than zucchini

Anyone who squeezes through a crowded farmers' market knows that now is prime time for locally grown produce. The summer's bounty — sweet corn, squash, eggplant, melons, peaches, berries, tomatoes — has arrived with the intensity of a thunderstorm. Everything looks inviting, even the okra (those green pods that when boiled become a dish some wouldn't touch with a 10-foot fork).
