HURON- S.D. - He led authorities from Huron to Sioux Falls on a day long man hunt. Now Charles Leroy Beeney is slated for another appearance before a judge in Huron.
Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore says Beeney was indicted by Beadle County Grand Jury at the end of January on three charges related to his escape from the Beadle County Jail.
Beeney busted out of the Beadle County Jail on January 8th after threatening to kill jailers with a device he claimed was a homemade gun. H
uron police nearly captured Beeney, when he evaded them in the Canadian Pacific railroad yard. He then stole a pick-up truck from a rural Beadle County residence and drove to Sioux Falls where he was apprehended that evening.
The 45-year-old is currently in the State Penitentary serving a two year sentence on an aggravated elluding in Jerauld County. Beeney has a history of escapes and attempted escapes. He has warrants out for his arrest in his home state of Kansas.
