The Museum of Discovery and Science is an interactive learning center in Fort Lauderdale. The museum is located at 401 SW Second Street, Fort Lauderdale and boasts more than 200 interactive exhibits, ranging from live sharks to a cyclone chair that demonstrates inertia. The Museum of Discovery and Science is an interactive learning center in Fort Lauderdale. The museum also houses an IMAX theater that shows 3D films for viewers wearing special glasses. The museum hosts turtle walks, lock-ins and conducts day camps for youths. About 400,000 people visit annually, according to museum officials. One of the newest exhibits is the Living in the Everglades exhibit that includes a virtual pressurized airboat ride through the Everglades. The museum was founded in 1976 as the Discovery Center and moved to its current location in 1992. It is estimated that nearly 7 million visitors have passed through the exhibits. Kim L. Cavendish is the current President and CEO of the museum. Museum officials plan to double the current exhibit space by 2010. Some additions include a two-story indoor and outdoor otter habitat and high-wire gravity bicycle. The Museum of Discovery and Science is open seven days a week. Admission prices vary.
