Been together: Six years
How they got started: After working as a songwriter in Nashville, Tenn., signed to a record label, Laurent moved to South Bend looking to start a band and hooked up with Clancy. When Briney and Margol were added, “We just loved it, and it clicked, and we started working real hard,” Laurent says.
Behind the name: Laurent heard a news story titled “Michigan City Vandals … and I said if I’m ever in another band, I’m going to call it the Michigan City Vandals.”
Genre: Indie rock, rock ’n’ roll, acoustic rock.
Influences: “Every single bit of music, as long as it has soul,” Laurent says, naming a wide range of artists from Beyonce to Incubus, from the Isley Brothers and Al Green to the Foo Fighters and Death Clock.
