Carol E. Hackney, farmer

Carol Elizabeth Hackney, who worked in agriculture management and had a Carroll County farm, died of stroke complications Aug. 29 at the Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville. The Eldersburg resident was 86. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Judge H. Hamilton Hackney, who worked in Baltimore's juvenile court, and Alice Smith Hackney. The family owned Cold Saturday Farm in Finksburg and raised purebred Aberdeen Angus cattle. Miss Hackney was a 1948 graduate of the Garrison Forest School. She studied for a year at the old Western Maryland College and then earned a degree in animal husbandry at Iowa State University. She joined the family cattle operation and worked...
