Midwest Buddhist Temple

The Midwest Buddhist Temple, now at 435 W. Menomonee St., was founded on July 10, 1944 the South Parkway Community Hall on Chicago's South Side by the late Rev. Gyodo Kono and a congregation of Japanese-Americans who had just been released from the U.S. internment camps of World War II. Today, the temple has a diverse membership and welcomes all who seek the meaning of life from the Buddha Dharma. The temple is affiliated with the Buddhist Churches of America and follows the teachings of the Jodo Shinshu, or The Pure Land School.
