Lakeview, Logan Square, and the Near North Side, three community areas that don’t typically log homicides, each recorded a homicide in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Lakeview, a 29-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 4000 block of North Ashland Avenue, police said. It was the second homicide this year for Lakeview, RedEye data shows.
In Logan Square, a 22-year-old woman was fatally shot Saturday in the 2300 block of North Harding Avenue, officials said. It was the second homicide this year for Logan Square, RedEye determined.
On the Near North Side, a 31-year-old woman was stabbed to death Monday in the 100 block of West Huron Street, police said. It was the first homicide this year for the Near North Side, according to RedEye data.
Meanwhile, a 3-month-old Jefferson Park girl died this week from injuries related to child abuse, and the case was ruled a homicide, officials said.
Thirteen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 35 homicides in October last year, RedEye found.
